Has anyone found a cost effective way to communicate with other riders while riding. Been thinking about Motorolla radios with VOX, but would like to have something that could play music too, that isnt just ear buds from a phone or Ipod. Its always tough riding the front with a string full of kids and not being able to know whats going on. The music is secondary, and not reall that important, just curious.

I tried a couple of cheapy radios on trips with my crew. I would wear one being the lead rider and the last rider would wear one. Keeping the young ones between us. In my experience, the VOX worked good until riding at high rpms. Sometimes the engine would activate it and it quickly became frustrating. Constantly asking "what did you say?" when no one actually said anything. The PTT worked better, but required you to ride with one hand, which was difficult. But keep in mind I was using very inexpensive radios.

I thought about the same thing . Figured the Motorollas / VOX would be best , that way new riders could adapt . Here's what I would buy for music ( IF ) I had a quad...

we have a pair of the blueant interphone helmet communicators. they work very well. they also have bluetooth connection to your phone. (the helmet-to-helmet communication is not bluetooth, just 2-way radio). one press of a button switches from intercom to bluetooth so you can answer the phone. unfortunetly the bluetooth is not stereo so you cant play music from your phone via the bluetooth. they are a very nice setup and work very well.

i have motorola with vox and ptt and head sets
ptt is on the wire and i had head sets mounted in our helmets
vox was either too touchy or not enough
ptt was better but the one handed thing kept happening
12kingquad35 sells decent radios and can get all kinds of headsets too
i hope to get one soon

Thanks guys, I used t have a two way system for street bikes made or sold by Radio Shack, and it was great, you had to tether to the handle bars for the PTT button, but it was just a regular headphone jack style plug. Cost like 90 bucks for 2 and it was able to be set to 4 or 5 different frequencies so you could add more whenever just by syncing the switches. Real simple real easy real affordable. Granted that was 16 years ago, but you figure with technology it would be easier. Ill check Collet man. 500 is pricey, but may well be worth it.

Just read the collett page. 269 a person. 94 for a plug in intercom that is fully included in every converation and the music the one its plugged into plays. May be a great idea, right after I hit the lottery!!! Just Kidding, its awesome, just not this year.

Trust me...we experimented with the cheaper versions. None worked all that well. Some were not loud enough, some would get interference with the motor, and some wouldnt go past 500 yards. Trust me, dont try to skimp if you are buying something liek this. It will just cost you more in the long run. I learned the hard way

I think Collett is out of business, numbers are out of order

Not a fan of Collett. They dont have quite the range that the Chatterbox has. Trust me.....the Chatterbox is worth the money. Easy to install and easy to use.
