Ramey Poker Run - Amendment

I wanted to mention some things forgotten in the original post.
I didn't realize how many times the original post would be read. I almost didn't post the original message because I didn't want to draw too much attention to this area cause we all know how scarce good riding areas are these days. With just a few words the owner could close up his property and I don't want that to happen - ever. I don't want to give him any reason to revoke our (my) riding priviledges.
Also, I regret saying that poker run riders can ride without paying.
For these reasons I have a few suggestions:
1) PLEASE clean up after yourselves. Pick up your trash and take it out with you. Make sure fires are extinguished. With the present weather conditions fires are a very bad idea and probably prohibited.
2) If we ride here during a poker run we should support the fire company by paying to ride. $15 per machine isn't much when compared to other riding areas. Hey, that $15 might turn into a cruise in the Caribbean - Just kidding bout that. Matter of fact I don't actually know what prizes are available.
3) Within the riding area are areas that are off limits to riding - such as active mining sites. These are marked and riding there is prohibited. If an area is closed off - you're not missing out on anything as there are many more miles open to riding elsewhere. When they're done mining they might leave something interesting behind such as new hills or mud holes. For now just stay out.
4) Be nice to other riders. Might make some new friends. Don't get upset if someone wants to ride faster that you - Just let them pass. Don't be too competitive, thats when accidents happen.
5) Ride safe. Ride within yours and your machine's limits. This should be a given.
6) Just a reminder that there is a game preserve nearby. I'm told that it's marked but I've never seen it. If you come across no trespassing signs or closed gates simply turn around and go another way - again we're not missing out on anything.
7) Encourage others to ride mindful of the landowner. I know there will always be a-holes - they're everywhere. I refuse to be one and by being a good example maybe I can rehabilitate some.
8) I strongly discourage riding while intoxicated. This is a disaster looking for a place to happen. If you're drinking - STOP RIDING and let it wear off.
Your friend, K&P

So with rule number 4 when your going up a hill on a utillity quad and a sport wants pass and you know your going to get railed with every rock slung off his tires from spinning, you should stop and let them? BAH HA HA HA HA HA!!! Good Luck buddy I'm bigger than you and you can pass me on the flat or I'll push you into a tree on the climb! The sport quads aren't in any hurry either! Maybe they should be respectful of other riders and think about all the crap thats coming off their tires when their spinning up a hill and passing you. What I described I will do if this ever happens to me at RAMEY agian. Sounds bad but it is what it is, I won't get bombarded with stones off a sport quads tires. So sporties leave the racing for the track, a poker run isn't a race. LOL!!

Well, yeah. Thats a jacka$$ not being courteous. And it will happen. I can tell you if someone did that to one of my kids I would peg the Brute Force and knock them into a tree too. But as a general rule we all pretty much ride as described above, and from the guys Ive met and ridden with so far we meet #4 and the others. Except Mud Duck leaving that poor surveyors tape out there tied to a tree.

Chris, Sorry about the bad experience at Ramey. As far as rule #4 goes, I wasn't referring specifically to passing on a hill, instead I was thinking about courtesy in general. Courtesy alone should have kept the other rider(s) from passing on a hill and, more importantly, from kicking up debris at other riders.
I'm one of the slowest riders out there and it don't bother me to let faster riders pass. On a similar note: It don't bother me to turn around and go back if a trail gets too tough for me or my machine. ATV's are expensive and I waited a long long time to get my Rubicon; I'm not gonna let my pride or someone else's ignorance or antagonism force me to damage this machine that I love so much. If my machine gets damaged they aren't the ones who pay to get it repaired.
I understand and agree with your assessment of passing on a hill.
On a trip to Snow Shoe Rails to Trails I was crossing the railroad bridge when there were two local riders parked in the middle of it. They were off of their machines looking over the side (the side with the railing) and they made no attempt to move their machines. I was able to squeeze past them with just a few inches to spare (on the side that does not have the railing). I thought that was pretty ignorant and I was advised next time to get safely past them, get off, walk back and push their machines over the edge. I wouldn't do that. I'm the type of person who avoids confrontation, because in tense situations like that I get tongue tyed, dumbfounded and dont know what to say. For me its better to just accomodate a-holes like this and keep on rolling. Also I did some night time riding at Ramey maybe two weeks ago. At one point I had some riders come up from behind and pass me (no problem at this point) but then in order to make a left turn the leader swerved into my path and then slid into a left hand turn throwing debris right into my path/face. Again I dont know what to say or how to say it, so I didn't even bother to go after him. It's entirely possible that he was in a "zone" and didn't realize what his machine was kicking up.
Again, sorry about your experience. Dont let those asses keep you from enjoying future rides.
K&P
