Is it diesel or gas? If it's a diesel, the Smarty programmer hands down.

Is it an early 04 or an 04.5? I hear the Smarty is better on the later common rails (04.5+) but not necessarily on the 03-04 trucks. I think i've read that Bully Dog or Edge is pretty good on the 03-04 trucks? I have an 06 with a Smarty and I like it.

The smarty is ok i have it on my truck now. But hands down if you want to make power the Edge juice with attitude is the way to go. the smarty works good but it sucks, you can not change your power as you drive you have to stop shut the truck off and re load every thing. Takes like 10 min. the Edge juice with attitude just push the button as you drive.. and rool some coal... if you have any ??? just ask.

I have to slightly disagree. I don't think the Edge is better for making power. The most you can get out of the Edge is 160 hp and you have to pay an extra $100 to get to that level with the hot unlock. My Smarty makes up to an extra 230 hp and it has more adjust-ability. I do agree that it is a big pain to stop and turn the truck off to reload levels and the edge is just a push of the button on the fly, but if you want power go Smarty. If you want a great overall package but huge HP isn't your main concern, go Edge. I've had both so this is from experience. As for which of the two you mentioned is better? I have no experience with those but I think you will be happy with either. Anything will make these trucks come alive.

All the numbers were based on a 05. with the edge you pay for number 6 but it can make more power....Not much but more... I would like to know where or how you get 230hp Or are you talking about the Torque?

I'm talking about the free download on MADS site for the Smarty TNT software. Yes the Smarty only comes standard with 170hp but for FREE, you just download the TNT software and it bumps up to 230hp. If you go on MADS site and under downloads (I have the S-06) and click on the free TNT download, it says right in the disclaimer, 100hp on the lowest setting and 230 additional hp on level 9. Under the description for the programmers (at least on the S-06), those hp numbers are numbers off of a dyno as well. Not estimated but actual on a stock truck.

Ok you got me on that. But i think he wants something he can run on a stock truck and get some great power and not tear up his truck. i am talking about the real world here for a normal truck. sure he can do all of that. and go out and spend $8k on another trans $3k on a turbo and all the other good that come along with that kind of mods. He is not going to make a sled puller just an every day driver that he wants to smoke a chevy with at the stop light....LOL... so it would be a FREE down load for another $15k in extra parts to make it a good relible every day atv or camper puller.
Right off of smartys page..
IMPORTANT! The TNT software you are about to access IS DANGEROUS to the stock engine and drivetrain! The TNT software has been written for trucks with extensive modifications!
The horsepower levels start around 100 Hp on CaTCHER # 1 and reach 230 additional Hp on CaTCHER # 9. These HP gains are referred to a “close to stock” engine but depending on your modifications can be more. With correctly modified and tuned engines we have seen gains in the 400+ Hp range above the stock software. On the higher settings a stock engine can NOT take full advantage of it because the fuel and air supply from the stock parts are simply not enough. Aftermaket, turbo, injectors, lift pump, injection pump, automatic transmission AT LEAST are required! Also a good insurance against valve float at high boost levels is a good set of stiffer valve springs. If you need valve springs or not, depends upon several factors like max boost pressure reached, rev range and of course the mileage of the stock springs.

All I was doing was showing you that the Edge does NOT make more power than the Smarty. I didn't say Edge was bad. In actuality the Edge is even more hp than what is recommended on a stock truck. Stock Dodge transmissions are only good for another 35hp or so over stock. Even an Allison is only good for about 65hp over stock, RELIABLY. Sure people do more but that's what I've heard is safe. So really, the Edge is just as bad for a stock truck on those high settings. Smarty is just actually putting it in writing so nobody can blame them for blowing their truck up. When I had my Edge, my transmission slipped on the higher settings and it was just a NORMAL daily driven stock truck. And if he's going to plan on smoking any Duramax's, he better plan on a new transmission anyways because it wont last long if it's stock and your racing on higher settings. So I wouldn't point the fingers at just Smarty because Edge is just as capable at destroying truck parts as any other (by the way, I didn't spend any where near 8k on my heavy duty transmission, not even half, and you can get very good turbos for well under 3k.....just saying).
If you read my first post in this thread, I said that I believe the Edge or Bully Dog tuners are better for the 03-04 trucks. And I meant in terms of performance. Every truck is different.
If you want your truck to be reliable, leave it alone unless you want to pay. RELIABLE, FAST, CHEAP. You can pick two but you can't have all 3.
I think we have derailed this thread enough, so if you want to continue this discussion, PM me, because I don't want threads being locked or people being booted off.

derailed this thread, Ha Ha,I don't think so! you guys brought up a good argument, but we still don't know if original poster has a gasser or diesel! He hasn't reposted since he started this topic. I will use this info when I am in the market for a programer for my Dodge CTD after my warranty expires.

LOL I guess you're right. We don't know if he's got a gas or diesel.
No, Wheelie Man is right. The Edge system is a very good system to use. It's easy to install, easy to use and it already comes with a gauge pod and a bunch of safety options and alarms (it will defuel automatically if you reach your set safety boundries). So all in all it's a very good system. I was just stating that it will not make more power than the Smarty programmer, and I paid less for my Smarty than I did for my Edge. I did however, have to buy my Edge Insight to act as gauges with my Smarty, so in the end I probably did spend a bit more than the Juice w/attitude system, but I have a ton more power potential now, and the Edge can be just as dangerous as the Smarty.
I still stand by, "if you want your truck to be reliable, leave is alone" (other than maybe a few emmission deletes). This game is very addicting once you start adding power and see what these trucks can do, and it wont be cheap.
They are all pretty good programmers, superchips is a good programmer but not as popular in the diesel crowd. Diablo is a mean contender, Bully dog can be one of the best, along with Edge and Smarty. You almost have to try them all and see which you like best. Wheelie man likes his Edge better than his Smarty and I like my Smarty better than my Edge. It's all personal preference.
If it ends up that he is talking about a gasser, then I don't really have any idea because I don't have one, ha.

I will ask them. Every time I took my Duramax to the dealer before they would write up the RO, they plugged the scanner in to make sure I was using a GM program. With my Dodge I am not looking to make a race truck does what I ask it to but the MPG's Suck @ss. I would like a to reprogram whitout any deletes for better MPG's and go from there.

You have an 2004 Ram? If so their should be NO deletes to do except, the muffler. And by Law it does not need that. If you go with the Smarty it does not leave any finger print behind. They never know it is there. unless you leve it in when you take it to them.
