4X4 do you run something in the REX? I want something that is voice activated and hands free. Also, I've seen people on rides with these HUGE battery packs/units bolted to the side of the helmet. They look to weigh about 30 Lbs. each, lol. That won't work either. The Cardo Scala Rider line are rather small which would be good. I'm not a Techy so a lot of what is out there I simply don't understand or need. I can't imagine answering my phone while riding and I don't care for the distraction of listening to music either. Just need to be able to scream at my son to pay attention to the trail, lol. Or simply be able to hear what he has to say while riding beside me in our RZR. This is one of our ways to connect with each other and it's the complete basis for my looking into these type of radios. I appreciate all the imput so far.

I don't currently have radios in the Rex . I probably could'nt run VOX if I wanted to because the Rex's cab is too noisy and would activate the VOX with engine noise . I would have to use (PTT) Press To Talk . I think if you had a good fitting ear bud , PTT would be the way to go to keep VOX from going off by itself from engine or wind noise .

You could always hook up a set of those TRAIN horns to your RZR - RZRDAD . That would get your sons attention real fast ...

There are noise level activation charts for VOX on most websites that sell them. For one to be practical to use in the environment would require a hefty price tag, unfortunatley, and you would still have to yell over the ambient noise, unless you bought full face helmets, then that buys you some room.. The PTT set ups arent too bad, and the cord from the button to the headset just plugs together, so when you get out of, or off of the machine its a minimal task to unplug it from the button and slide it in your pants pocket. I used them ofetm when riding street bikes with groups, and the PTT wasnt too bad. Its a real nice option when riding with people while in a bad mood, none of them can hear what your screaming at them!!!

Did you ever find anything. I'm looking for the same thing for my son & I. Don't want a ptt system though. He 'll never hit the button.

Haven't bought anything yet. I suppose that I'm still looking only not all that hard, lol. I am not interested in a PTT system either, for the same reasons that you have. I'm also not going to spend a house payment on a system that is worth half of what they are asking. Those guys at Glamis are crazy for shelling out $600 to $1400 for a rugged radio set up.

Unfortunately thats what I may due. They have a really good reputation & customer service from what I hear. If it can last for a long time & do what I need then I'm willing to pay. Work an extra weekend or two will help pay the bill. Plus I won't be out riding which means I won't be out busting something else. LOL

Then I retract the "crazy" label ha ha. I thought about it too but life threw some other things in the way. Funny how that happens.

Oh believe I've been called worse by better people. lol. jk. I don't need anything right away just been doing some research. I hear ya. just seems when you work hard for that extra money. something else comes up.
