Hi All. Today I received the entry forms for the annual Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade. I have to have them back in a couple of weeks, so I would like to get a rough ATV/UTV count (NO BIKES!!!). If you want to ride in the parade, post up!. The parade is on Saturday March 17 at 10am. We have to be to the parking area by 8am as the roads get closed down around that time. It is always a great time. And don't forget, HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Lets try to get a nice group together and show our support for our sport. We are limited to about 30 units, so sign up soon. Put me down for one machine - my wife and I will be in the RZR.

Can Kids ride theirs for it? I wold drive out there for that for sure if the kids could be in it.

kids is a touchy subject. riding through the parade they would be ok, but not on the way back. going back, we have to ride the roads, with traffic, and the last 3 years we had no police escort. last year, we were doing 30 on liberty avenue in traffic getting back to the trucks. if the kids are 14+, they would most likely be ok, but younger than that, i would have to say no.

I would be okay, I've been riding for five years.
since I was seven.

And anyway I'll be fourteen on march 2nd

I would love to do this but I'm in NO WAY able to commit right now or even in 2 weeks. I'll get back to ya when my machine would be able to this. If not there's always next year! LOL!!

If thats the case, Id just stage them somewhere and pick em up with the truck and trailer. No big deal there. They could stop and have lunch somewhere and Ill just zip back and pick em up. I would love to have the kids cruising through a City on the three wheelers all decorated up and cool looking, I think that would be a very unique experience for them, and us.

myles....im sure we can fit you in at the last minute. i dont have to give an exact number, or names. just let them know an approximate number of atv's/utv's. i always estimate high just in case.
Irish....i dont see that being a problem at all. im sure we can work something out for you.

Just to let you know , if necessary , I have a jump seat for the bed of my Teryx that seats 2 with seatbelts . Just so no one gets left out . If kids wish to , they could easily toss candy from there .

4x4.....parade rules dont allow anyone to toss or throw anything into the crowd. it can only be hand passsed from the side.

ok this might be an option for me this year. where is the parking area and stuff, does anyone have a address and what time should i leave from greensburg to get there..... traffic and all

i would give yourself an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to get there. the last 2 years, we parked at liberty commons at 26th street and liberty avenue in pittsburgh strip district. i have not got confirmation on that for this year yet, but i would imagine it will be the same. as soon as i get the confirmation i will post it up.

We had a good time last year, the kids loved it. Not to rain on anyones parade but I doubt I would drive more than a few hours to do this without having somthing else lined up to do. Mabey Mines & Meadows, or a sporting event, or hitting the museums in town. I live about 7 miles from town and could park a small trailer or two in the driveway if someone needed to drop theirs in a secure location overnight. We're in for 3 four wheelers.

I just came across this thread while checking the date for the parade. This sounds like something my husband would be interested in. How can we get more information and/or register? Is it too late?

Just keep an eye on this post and I believe there will be a headcount when it gets a little closer to the parade date. Then everyone going will discuss where & when to meet . I believe that is how it worked last year .

yea thats what i need to know also..... the cost and the definit place of parking. i got a few quads lined up too...... that would be sick to have a good turn out and alot of fun.

there is no cost to join us for the parade. i am still working on getting the confirmation for the parking. it would be great to have a good turn out. the crowd always loves us.

trail ranger....can i get the dimensions of the banner? and is it possible to get 2 of them. i am going to make a wooden a-frame to the size of the banners that will go on my trailer and tow it behind one of the quads like a float. we did this about 4 years ago and it looked pretty good.....jim

Excellent. We're hoping to have 3 quads (Yamaha Raptors) and a Polaris Rzr.

tom...my trailer is about 6 1/2 feet long, so if we go with a 6 foot long banner by how ever tall would look good with that length, we should be good. just let me know how tall it will be so i can build my frame. i would rather have 2 banners rather than 1 big one. also, what color the banner will be so i can paint the frame to match. thanks.jim

One question. If I bring a trailer to tow behind the rzr, can people ride inside as long as they have helmets on? The trailer has sides all the way around.

Anyone have room for a small sport quad on their trailer? I have a ride there but no transport for my bike.

maybe everyone coming from the east can meet in murrysville or something and have a convoy down the parkway into the big city

ok...i got an email back today that we can utilize the large side parking lot at liberty commons in pittsburgh strip district. this is located at 2600 liberty avenue, at the intersection of 26th and liberty. it appears that we have 25 atvs lined up. we are near our limit at this point. blazinhi....i dont think they would allow anyone to ride in the trailer, especially when we have to ride the roads back to the trucks.

Just want to make sure we don't get bumped - I responded very early that I am in with a rzr.

This is last years parade route, which I think is going to be the same this year.

Parade formation will begin at the Greyhound Bus Station at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 11 th Street. Staging will take place from the bus station and away from Downtown to 26 th Street. The parade will proceed from the intersection of Liberty and 11 th Streets to Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies, where it will turn right. Proceed on the Boulevard of the Allies to the Reviewing Stand at Stanwix Street, then disburse at Commonwealth Place.

Your best shot is to probably come in 28. You can do it by going over the crosstown exiting onto 28 and take the 1st. right on Heinz St. & zig zag your way over the river.

No sooner do I open my big mouth to say that we are definitely going to the parade - one of my a-hole buddies decides to get married on that day!!!!!! Do you believe that? What are the odds??? (I know, the odds are 1 out of 365). Anyway, I hope you all have a ball and wish I could make it. The worst part is he will probably be divorced before Christmas!!!!!!

If anyone would like to follow down to Liberty Ave. I'll be going SR 356 to SR 28 over the 31 street bridge and down Liberty to the parking area . ( I'm afraid Int.79 & 279 will be to conjested for towing a large trailer ) Just PM me and we can meet up near 356 & 28 around 7 am or so .

Will anyone be going down the parkway from the murrysville area. i would meet you 4x4, theres a sheets or a getgo there by 28 right, but it seems way out of the way for me. but im also worried the parkway is going to be jammed up too. just wondering if anyone has gone the parkway in the past and how bad it was. thinking if i leave early enough it won;t be to bad any thoughts or suggestions

Yes , there is a Get Go and a Sheetz about 1/2 from 28 , on 356 . Get Go would be the best meeting place since there is a larger parking area around it . I'm just trying to avoid as many Pittsburg drivers as possible while towing my large cargo trailer . I'll confess , I'm nervous as HE!! driving in that traffic , let alone towing in it ! I'll probably hang out for a while after the parade in the parking lot until things thin out , so I'll have a small grill & food if anyone wants to join us . If by chance the weather is bad , we can still wait in my trailer and cook there .

the weather looks like its going to be good, there sayin 60's and sun but who knows by then. well i dnt know what to do im thinking if i leave by 6:00 am i may beat the majority of the traffic im not to worried about the traffic i drive truck with all the crazy people but not making it there on time or them shutting the roads down before i get there cuz ill have to get off at grant street and cut over to liberty, and i definetly not going thru oakland

4x4dad....one of the bridges off of 28 is closed and i think it is the 31st street bridge. check on this and reroute a head of time if that is the one that is closed. you may have to take 40th street bridge and come in that way.

The 31st st. bridge is closed from 28. You can take the 40th St. bridge. Make sure you are in the left hand lane once you pass Etna. There is a left turn light there for the 40th st. bridge. You can just stay on 40th St. all the way to liberty. Turn right on Liberty and parking lot will be on your left side.

Think our group is gonna leave New Ken. by the McDonalds (corner of 366 & 909)at 6:45. Not sure if we are gonna go 28 or Butler St. If anyone wants to follow us meet in the parking lot next to McDonalds(some kind of discount grocery store) before 6:45.

Rude drivers that have NO common courtesy for others on the road . Road or bridge repairs constantly have you rerouting to get somewhere . It was a proven fact years ago , Pa. cities have the poorest signage for out of towners to easily find thier way around . Pittsburg is a cool city with TONS of things to do , but I'd always rather have someone else driving that knows thier way around town . So as I said , I'll be lookin for Blazin early saturday morning .

i would recommend clean. we dont want the city to get mad at us for getting mud all over the streets, plus we dont want the marchers behind us stepping in the mud either. i personally completely detail mine. i shine the tires and use this special gel shine on the plastic, the racks, fame....ect. it is the same stuff that detailers use on cars that have those black/gray textured bumper covers. when i am done with it, it shines like glass. also, although by no means required, decorations are always a hit too. there is a link to the pictures of last years parade on the 6th post of page 2 of this thread.

Ya gotta decorate them and get a ton of Pics!!!! Good press is almost never seen or heard of from the ATV community, I really wish I was going, but money isnt allowing it right now!!

Got the Rex' cracked plastic rocker panel replaced tonight . We plan on decorating it all in green . Just not sure how or with what . Lots of ideas . Just need to find the material .

i got mine all detailed up today too. they look pretty good. now just got to touch them up when i get there saturday morning, then go to town with the decorations....yes that pun was intentional....lol

The parade is a blast, at least it was a couple of years ago. One thing I learned was that when you have big lug mud tires the ride was a lot more compfortable when you dropped the air pressure down to about 2 pounds, and wheelies where a hit.

I'm down to 2 machines from 3. I dont have brakes for the 230, and I'll get home late from Lock Haven. Working out of town sucks!
