Just bought some parts to start a build. Anyone ever taken this task on. Doesnt seem to bad but time will tell. Bought a PSA stripped lower, DPMS lower parts kit, DPMS buffer tube kit. Still looking at the Upper assemblies. Looking for something cheap. Anyone with any experience on this?

I don't have much experience with building them, but I must say that I love my AR! I bought a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 a couple years ago. Up until a few weeks ago I kept it bone stock. A co-worker is going to start into gunsmithing school and he suggested a few additions for me. I just wish I would have added these things on sooner! The only advice (or is it a warning???) I can give you is that you will probably become an addict! They make an incredible amount of accessories for AR's and you will want more and more. Atleast that's how my friends and I have been. Good luck and enjoy your build!

I can strip one down and put it back together. With as much as M-16's jam and what not, I wouldn't go cheap on nothing. But thats just me. I've put 3,000 rounds of 5.56 down range in one afternoon, but that was with a M-249 SAW. LOL!! The Army paid for the ammo. If you ever want a cleaning kit for it I have 2 or 3 new ones that I got out of some M-16 A2's. I hope someday to get one or build one, your so LUCKY!! Your gonna have so much fun when its done! LOL!!

I have an Olympia, and I love it. Cant wait to do some upgrades to it and make it nice, but seeing how inexpensive the Bushmasters have become I may just trade up a little first. If i can ever get my Oly back from my neghbor LOL

Been looking at it and I think I am gonna stick with the PSA upper as well. Looked at the DPMS but I might as well get the matching upper. 399 for the upper. My wife is gonna kill me by the time I'm done.

Hey guys i recomend the optics ready bushmaster or s%w , lots of add ons for both . I have a bushmaster and a dpms , the bushmaster is 223 and the dpms is 308. Both are great. I have the bushmaster set up for a scatter gun and the dpms as a sniper rifle w/bi-pod up front and a single pod sniper stock to make it free standing. Both calipers are very acurate and awesome!

In all reality its not bad. Maybe about 2 dozen parts in the lower, the upper you buy as a complete unit. It attaches quickly to the lower pins. I would say 2 hrs depending on what options you buy. Assembly isnt that hard. Just look on youtube. Pretty simple.
Actually shopping for the stuff is probably going tp be more time consuming. There are so many options out there it'll make your head spin. Its alot easier than people think it is.

I would just buy one complete and if there is a problem I know it wasn't my fault. I am impatient. I would have a hard time buying the individual parts. Your not crazy, well maybe just a little

Well jumped in with both feet. Got the Spikes Tactical lower, DPMS lower parts kit, and 6 way adjustable stock. For anyone thinking about doing this, I would say go for it. Its almost too easy with all the resources out there. If anyone needs the assembly guide book, you can have the one I got with the kit. Took 45 minutes to assemble the complete lower. Everything works flawlessly. Just now to order the upper parts. Only problem is the barrell I want is 6-8 weeks lead time

Full autos are very much legal, you have to apply for a $250.00 permit, and its considered a tax. Once you agree to the terms of the "tax" you alos agree to allow ATF to visit your home on a whim, and search it. Same goes for silencers. I was going to buy a fully Auto Tommy Gun, and was even willing to agree to the terms but something nagged me about it, Its a long story but in short my FIL owned a shooting range in town here, and they were looking for any means to hassle him, since we lived here while he was dying it would have given them any and all access to search his home. Now that he is gone I may do it. I'd like me a fully Automatic .45 ACP!!!

Right. I knew you could do it, but I didnt look into all the red tape BS in order to get one. I know guys have them. I am not sure really what goes into the build that would be different from what I am doing. Either way, dont really feel like messing with the ATF......thanks for the correction Irish....never really knew the exact details of owning a FA.....now I do...lol.

Well finally got it all together. I couldnt be more happy with everything that I got. This thing rocks. I knew this was going to be a fun gun, but it exceeded my expectations then fold. For anyone thinking of getting an AR style gun, BUILD IT!!! So much more satisfaction when you pull the trigger for the first time. You can get every individual piece to your liking. No more buying an off the shelf model and modding it up (although I have nothing against that). Here is the build sheet (may not mean anything to some people though) - Spikes Tactical Lower - Stag Arms Lower Parts Kit (had a DPMS but took it out and sold it. Trigger was a little funky for me) - DPMS 6 way adjustable stock - Spikes Tactical Upper Receiver - Spikes Tactical 1:7 Twist Chrome lined barrell - Spikes heavy Duty Buffer Kit - Spikes NiBoron Bolt and Carrier Group - Magpul MOE handguard and folding rear backup sight - TruGlo 2x42 Adjustable Red Dot - Alot more little details but that is that major stuff
PICS!!!!!!
Sighted it in a 50 yards. Took 10 rounds to bring it in. Here is a little aftermath with some fun we had.....heheheh (tannerite rules)
1/2 lb of tannerite is some wicked stuff....lol

Thats all the longer my property allowed me to do safely. I'll get it at the range and zero it again. I plan on trying 500 yds with it sometime in the future. The gun club I belong to has metal plates out to 600 yards.

I am planning on building another upper to go with this gun after I get used to it. I want to get a 20" match barrel from either Larue or Noveske and dedicate that upper to the long range stuff. Probably go with a 25X or 30X scope. I would like to have one for intermediate and another for distance. I just got this red dot cause with the money I spent on building it and tools, I wanted to hold off on buying some good glass. Once the wallet gets a little heavier, I am planning on getting something decent. This was cheap enough that if it breaks, im not out a ton of cash. One guy that is with me has the Mil Dot and that thing is sweet. The other guy that built one the same time I did bought a Trijicon ACOG. That thing is friggin saaawwwwweeeett. 1400 bux for the scope though
