Looks like a beautiful area to take the family. Is it worth the drive? Any feedback or suggestions from anyone who has been there? Also, any specific SXS / UTV friendly areas? Any other feedback would be great. Trying to plan my spring and summer trips in advance this year! Thanks!

We went two years ago. My riding apatite wasn't really satisfied. I like trails trough the woods the size of atvs and technical trails. They were starting to make some trails like that at that time and might have made more since. The few we rode on were pretty good, but not enough for me. Also, if you hook up with a local, maybe there are some we didn't find that aren't on the maps. If you are into open dirt roads you can cruise on and put tons of miles on, this place is for you. Also if you want some easy riding, too. It would be great for an easy family trip. You can go to many resturants and get gas on the trail. There are a few neat sights to see, like the goerge. I'm not sure on SxS rules, but I think you will fit almost everywhere. If you like mud, you have to visit Timberview Lodge's mud play area. We spend hours there each day. We rented camp polcat and liked it very much. I would recomend it to stay at. Here's a link to info and contact. camp polcat

We have a camp up there. Would much rather ride the sleds but we go up for the big wheeler events. Snirt, mudfest, etc. I actually raced mud fest 2 years ago and took 1st in the 800 class. My wife took 3rd in the 700 class.

Check with Lewis County DMV on the side by sides. I dont think they are allowed on the trails yet (just the RZR). There is some legislation that was out but I'm not sure if it passed yet. You need to get a NY reggy to ride the trail system as well

Mcfly, Have they opened up any new atv trails, other than dirt roads, since 2010? Are there any trails okay to ride that aren't on the map? Kfp, here is the map I made up to put in my GPS as a guidance when we went up in 2010. It's all the approved roads you can ride with the Lewis county permit in the Timberview and Flat Rock area without trailering as the map goes. There are more aproved roads not on my map, but not connected. Best bet, if you're still interested, is to get a new 2012 map when it comes out this spring which is either I think $5.00 or included with a permit. Trails and roads can change year to year up there.

They have opened up some trails around the Tug Hill region but like I said most of them are seasonal roads. There is also some new stuff over by Brantingham, which is a good ride from Tug Hill. They are actually trying to shut that trail down. Some goof from Turin is trying to petition to shut down all trails in the Turin area.
You get a trail map with your registration as well. There are a few off trails here and there but for the most part you better stick to the map when your up there. They will fine you if they catch you where your not supposed to be
