I am looking for some input on some mild mud tires for my Sportsman. I want to put on 27" (has 26" stock size). There are so many to choose from and they are not cheap spend so if you are happy with what you purchased let me know. Thanks, Rrudzi

Those new Pit bull tires look sweet. Thats the tires I'm gunning for when I'm ready to buy new tires.

I handled the Pit Bull's at A truck show and sidewalls felt flimsy to me. I could see a stick in the sidewall.

I like my 27" XTRS for a mud tire and the only complaints I have are reversing in the snow and climbin' wet logs. I have about 800 miles on them. The 29.5" Outlaws are great in the mud but wear fast on hard pack and do pull and vibrate at high speed (35+). I put about 200 miles on them and use them mostly for muddin'. I was looking at the 31" silverbacks but read in an article that the way the lug pattern is laid out they have trouble clawing out of holes.

For an all around trail tire you can't match the bighorns and they do OK in the mud but the tires don't self clean very well.

I'm running 28" mudzillas for right now. They ride a little rough up til 10 mph but they are great in the holes. I didnt go with the outlaws or backs because I have heard they wear pretty easily on hard pack surfaces. The Mudzillas will wear like iron and probably outlast the atv.

If the mudzillas are little too extreme and your looking for decent mud capabilities with trailing capabilities look at the following tires. They are a step down in mud performance but have much better trail handling capabilities: Kenda Executioners, Maxxis Mudbug, ITP 589's.

The Bighorns are awesome on the trail but you will have some difficulty with the mud as Swampcat stated above because they don't clean out very well. But the are probably the best trail tire on the market at this point. I have a set to throw for the trail rides but never really use them anymore because I love running the Mudzillas.

My 27" ITP 589's are wearing like iron and there OK, I just don't like the bump steer that I think is from the lugs on the outside of tire. Plus they are heavy as crap and really like to dig in the snow instead of riding on the snow LOL!! For the money there is better tires out there. what ever tires I get they are always atleast 6ply, I hate plugging tires along the trail. LOL!!

I've got the MudLite XL's and they are OK for a trail tire. I'm not super impressed with their mud capabilities, but they do OK (OK in the snow too i guess). I hear the XTR's and Zilla's are about the two best Mud/trail tires out there and the Zilla's are really light. Bighorns would be good for anything else but I have heard like others, that they don't clean the best. Mudbugs, 589's, Outlaw MST's, swampwitch, swampLites, are some other good tires as well.

My buddy has the Pit Bull tires on his Honda and they perform extremely well in the mud. They clean out very well and do not pack up. I would suggest the Pit Bull's for a great all around tire.

I love my Maxxis Zillas, they are considered all terrain however you did say mild mud tire and they fit that bill for sure. They are light and durable. They do run small so if your looking for 27's I would go with Zillas in 28". They will measure 27" with about 5 psi.

not as well as I expected. It appears that Polaris decided to install a mild Helix in the secondary clutch on the 07 700. The secondary clutch is not servicable (only year and model that uses this secondary). So the get the results that I would like I would need to replace the secondary. What I do like is the knowledge I am gaining while I am doing this mod. The HeelClicker was a piece of cake. The primary didn't have to be removed but I did anyway to test the clutch puller that I made. I have been changing weights all week long to get it set the best I can get. I first set is as stated in the Heelclicker directions but i was not happy with high gear. Low gear stood the quad right up but High gear the belt slipped until 3500 rpm.

Hey Rrudzi, I have the plain and simple 27" ITP Mud and Snow, and I havent been nested by anyone getting into or out of anyhting yet. They clean good, they are heavy, but the only holes Ive had in them are from nail boards at the old Paragon, and I got less holes then the other two guys. They are wearing great, but they do like to claw through snow as opposed to riding on top. My only complaint is they look like tractor tires, they have no personality at all, just all grunt. They are on a Brute Force 750, and it'll spin em, but nothing like the stock tires.

Them ITP's kinda look like these, LOL!! I wonder how they compare? I liked my 589's but they were heavy and liked to dig. So far with the Zilla's since I've had mine I have noticed some of the low end has returned. They are noticibly lighter.

My outlaws ride on top of/through anything but are not great for trail riding. Maybe it is because I am running 12 wide on all 4.

I've been told those Mud Machines are about the best mud tire next to an outlaw, and should go about anywhere. I would have bought those if I didn't find my Zilla's cheap. The only thing is, the mud machines only come in 12" rim size and are heavy. I would bet those new ITP's would compare a lot to the Zilla's

I wouldn't compare them to a pure mud tire like the outlaw, silverback, or mudzilla. They are a little less aggressive Than those major murders

I'm not saying they are in the same league as outlaws, silverbacks and others of that kind. I was just saying that without buying a strict mud tire like those stated before, the mud machines are probably one of the best mud/trail tires other than they are heavy. But you are right, nothing really compares to outlaws except outlaws, silverbacks, etc...

A friend is running them. They are a good intermediate mud tire. The only negatives are the weight, they like to dig, and the largest they come are 27's. Can't beat them for the price though

I think I found the tires I want, they are not mild but they are in my price range. My question is should i buy 4 skinnys "27x9-12" or (2) 27x9-12, (2) 27x12-12 If i do the skinny 4 I will order new wheels, check them out and let me know what ya all think, thanks

I asume I will need new wheels if I go with the skinny tires since the stock rear wheels are wider than the front.

The skinnies will dig pretty good compared to at least one pair of wides. That may be good or bad depending on your needs. I have all wides and it floats pretty good accross mud and snow but will still dig in if not careful. I Like at least the back tires to be wide because I have a cart that I pull and it gives a wider footprint when in soft stuff. Just my opinion though

Remember if your fronts and rears are the same size then the mud the front tires clear is the same path for the rear. If you go wider on the rear they can at least grab on to the material left outside of the footprints of the front.

I would only go all skinny if you are constantly in the mud and the mud pit has a defined bottom. For example a hole that is turned up with a solid bottom. For holes with no bottoms or very deep ones, beyond your clearance, go with wides. The only problem with wides on front is that the front is quick to water Wheelie. With that said I run the same size front and back on my two quads. The 650 has 12s and the 500 has 10s. I like the 10 front and rear the best but that quad is not strictly for mudding. anything wider up front will put extra stress on your bearings, bushings, and tie rod ends.

Rudz.....what size are you getting for those tires. If you go bigger (27 or larger) your going to have to clutch the Brute Force. Those things weigh a ton. I picked one up at a dealer once and they were definetly heavier than the Outlaws I was running at the time.

Great tire but if you dont reclutch it, I'm buying stock in Kawi belts...lol

I like the way you explained that Swampcat. Thanks, I do like to go into the mud but not all the time. I just like the look of the skinnys. I think I will just buy the same widths I got and just go up an inch to 27"

The 27x9x12 is 32 lbs the 27x12x12 is 33 lbs. Is that heavy? I am not sure what my stock tires weigh . I am just sick of being stuck.

You should be fine. You'll notice a little bit of a loss. There are heavier than the stockers. When you get in the muddy stuff, just run the machine in low gear and you should be fine.

Check out the GBC Dirt Devil 2 tires. I have them on my Sportsman 500 and they are awesome. They are a very heavy tire and you will lose so power.

In my opinion 27s are the biggest you want to go to hold your trail riding ability. I trail ride with 27" XTRS and they do just fine in all conditions (except backwards) Any higher and off camber and hill climbs become a bit harder. I ran 27s on my cat with no mods and did fine, each bike it diffrent though.

If the 27x12x12 is only 1 lb heavier than the 9 front I would go with the skinny fronts and wide backs. I only went with all wides because I got a good deal on 4 wides and couldn't sell/trade two of them for fronts, so I just put them on to try.

I actually don't mind them. These Zillas are lighter in 28" than my 27" skinny/wide mudlites, and being that these are 11" wide, they have pretty good trail manners too. It's quite stable with them. I didn't think I would like all wides for trail, but I've gotten used to them, and they do well in the snow. They do float a lot in deep water though which is a pain to steer but... Overall I like them. My opinion may change though if these were heavier. Forget about keeping clean with wides on the front.

Still wouldn't mind getting a set of skinny/wide trail tires for everyday use
