razor engine rebuild

Looking at a 2008 razor for sale. the owner said the engine is siezed up,sucked sand in the intake. price is good but don't know how much damage the sand would do. does anyone know about the cost to fix the repair? thanks gang for reading and looking for answers. dave

Sand in the motor means it needs a new crank and everything from there on up. Pistons, rings, cylinders, and even the head is probably damaged. Sand and motors do not mix at all. Water is one thing, sand is a completely different animal. If you can get it on the cheap, buy it. Remove old motor, and drop in factory fresh motor for like 3K.

thanks for the advise. thats what i thought. price is 5g's so i thought a little much if a motor repair may run 2-3 g's . i may have to pass as i don't know how rest of razor shape is. offered 4 but he wont move from 5. listed at 5800. thanks all

Sorry man. You can call around and see what some motor builders are charging. I still think for a Twin it will be in that range. 5800 would be a little on the step side for what it sounds like he did to it. If there is sand it the motor, gotta have sand in the fuel injection system, front and rear diff, primary and secondary clutches, etc. What I am saying is even though he says its just the motor, your probably looking at alot more.

Theres a place in Richlandtown,PA called Larrys, Ill add the number. He does a ton of used stuff, you may very well be able to find a used engine and put it in there for now, and then swap the piston, do a head job and a couple of bolt ons to freshen it up and jack it a little later. thanks all going to pass on it. found rebuilt motor around 2gs new at 3gs withall other issues unknown i told owner id pass unless price drops a lot dave

Hey Dave, Great advice you've been given and good decision on your side. Shoot me a PM on what your looking for in a rzr, I may be able to help you out. There's a 2010 in Lock Haven right now that only has like 250 miles on it with a winch and plenty of extra's. he's willing to trade for a Quad. Or sell outright.
