We have a camp right next to the RAC land. We ride 7 days a week up there. There is so much to see up there you can ride from Hometown to tower city. gives you so much different riding and place to take pics. of. Let me know and i will take you for a little tour.

Just picked up my first ever permit last week. I want to ride out there bad but have no knowledge of the area. I am laid off from the snow so I am seriously thinking about going up next week. Is it crazy for a guy with a bone stock wolverine to go up there on his own in all the snow during the week?? Man, just reading that back and it sounds crazy!! What do you guys think? Wheres a good spot to park? Any Insight is greatly appreciated since its a 2.5hr drive one way!!

I read on the the website where it said:
"Anyone wishing to take any type of licensed vehicle on Reading Anthracite Company property must have a valid driver's license and proof of registration and insurance"
does that mean you have to have insurance on your quad or bike?

They knock the price back to $30 single/ $50 family and maybe I'll think about it.
Just not worth it for people who have to travel 3-4 hours each way to get there. Between the cost of gas and food, just too much. I'd be lucky to see it 2 or three times a year.
It'd cost me $475 to ride??? That's nuts. Could I do it? Yes. Will I do it? No.
All the high prices do is drive people away. Lower prices = more customers...Just ask WalMart!!!

I have a 07 Wolverine and you wouldn't catch me out there by myself much less anywhere riding by myself. Unless you have a GPS, I wouldn't attempt RAC on your own, it's not worth it.

Stinkfoot,
I asked the question, would I need insurance on the bike or quad and you said yes. I have a dirtbike. How could I get insurance on a non registered or inspectable bike?

I went out there twice now by myself so far. First time still a lil too much snow for the stock wolvy, but second time was much better with a new set of Mudlites. Had a gps app for my iPhone which suprisingly worked excellent. I tracked my whole trip! I totally agree on the gps, especially being alone. I just rode conservative and even brought a come along just in case. Had a blast! Def easy to get lost out there, and certainly recommend going with a friend. Oh and a winch, that's next on the list of add ons!

I hate to say it but in the warm weather I figure about 50-75% of the riders up there never bought any permits.

I hate to say it but in the warm weather I figure about 50-75% of the riders up there never bought any permits. You are right with the people out there riding without permits. But if you spend 7 to 12 grand on a bike to ride and another 29 or so on your tow rig. Then you should be willing to pay 125.00 for a permit to ride on there land. also remember last year all the signs went up. So if you get hurt and need to be hauled out now you are also getting a fine for trespassing and if it happens in cassfoster township they also fine you to for breaking the township codes. I rode up there for at least the last 20 years for free. As soon as they started the permit plan i got one for me the wife and the 5 kids. I still think it is a great deal.

I can tell you this..I think it is a good idea... I dont mind paying $125.00 for one if they would just sell them on a sat. I Cant take off work. If i do it would cost me about $300.00 for the day. Come on now the money they make from it they can pay some one to sit there on a sat from 9am till 12noon.

rd3280 where are you coming from? Did you get a chance to ride up in the RAC property? I go up that way a few times a year and usually go during the week because of my schedule. I'm going up for my permit this week and going up next week and maybe the 26 and 27 of March. Anyone wants to ride let me know and maybe we can meet up.

Works out well for me because the kids have no school that day and alot of businesses are close. Or just take a vacantion day.

I think the $125 isn't a bad price considering all the land RAC owns and it's not just for riding you can also hunt on the land. Other places may be less but don't offer as much land or you can only ride if you camp it's more. Yes I know your not allowed to camp on RAC property but some do. The Hatfield McCoy trials are probably the best deal but it's so far and you almost would have to make it a week adventure with some friends unless you live nearby.
