My son and I just got back from Coudersport. We loved the trails, despite the wet Memorial Day weekend weather.

We are considering a trip to Bloody Skillet. My son drives a 2wd Ozark. The south entrance, from the parking area , appears to be a more difficult trail. It appears that the easier access to the trail is on the north end. My question is, is it possible to do the entire trail, minus the mapped out difficult parts, entering from the north? I am concerned about some of the YouTube videos that have water crossings and deep mud holes.

Thanks

John

Best bet is not to park at the brickyard in Orviston, but to park either at the middle trailhead or the top one by following DeHass road.

You can do most of the trails and avoid the black ones

The longer water crossing is not as deep and has never been a problem in my experience. There is a shorter one further down that gets deep at the other side after leaving the longer crossing, but some just turn around and go back. Alot of technical stuff for the beginner at BS, but a great place to learn more difficult terrain. Get urself some SSRT passes($20 each machine) and park up at Gillentown Trailhead. You can add some easy going trail miles over to the revamped connector trail to Bloody Skillet trails that your son would be fine with. Still one of my favorite places to ride but can't get anyyone to run up with me anymore...

The connector section from the twp roads down to the railbed are pretty steep and technical. DCNR is supposed to address this. There are also plans to bring another trail to Orviston to bypass the switchbacks.

Thanks guys. I have some time left to think about this. Headed to Scarnton to ride NWORC and probably Lost Trails iin ten days, but who is counting? Bloody Skillet may have to wait until August.

The other option is to give my son my Vinson and buy a King Quad for myself. That way he will be fine with the technical areas and the water crossings. I will make that pitch to my wife.

Anyone know a good divorce attorney in NY? Lol

be careful on those two water crossings at the bottom at the skillet. In a year like this with a lot of rain the second one can be a lot deeper than it appears. beautiful area down in there tho.

If your referring to the crossing along the black trail I think the intersection numbers were 24 and 25, that trail was closed last year.

probably is a black trail cause there is a tough section on the way out after that second water crossing. too bad if they closed that cause it was a cool area down there. wasn't up there last year so could be as you say
