You don't need to be a member of CMATV to ride the roads. You need to be registered and insured. I do suggest joining their club as they are a good club and pushing to expand riding in PA.

Thanks again Mike.

We took a ride down yesterday in the warm weather to see what we could figure out. unfortunately it looks like we are kind of boxed in by dead ended ATV approved roads in order to get from our property across route 6 where most of the trails / open roads are.
We are registered and insured and have submitted our application to the club. A little disappointed that we are missing a < 2 mile long section of approved roads to be able to have access to a lot of riding. If anyone here is in the area of Gurnee / Shin Hollow roads town of Gaines I would love to hear any suggestions.

There are gaps, you are allowed to cross Route 6 but not ride on it.

Some gaps that are state roads, there are plans to close the gaps, but what people have done is ride the short sections to access another legal road. The only time I hear of problems with the cops is if your not wearing a helmet, eye protection and such.

Ive ridden up to the NY border and only had to make one jump across a non-legal road.

I am going to call the police in Gaines and see what they can tell me. When we come off Shin Hollow Road at Route 6 you can see the trail on the other side of Route 6, in the back yard of a residence and on the other side of a large creek so while we can see the trail we can not get to it, and we have to travel just under 2 miles down Route 6 in order to pick up the road/trail (Lick Run Road), and the bridge to get across Pine Creek.
I saw where the state law says riding is permissible "On highways and streets when necessary to cross a bridge or culvert", just not sure they will agree with the need to travel the almost 2 miles to get to that bridge even though there are no closer or better options to allow us to reach it...

Our property is bordered by 2 towns and we have seen the DCNR officer stopping ATV riders as they leave the town of Gaines where they can ride and Clymer where they can not. It is the same kind of thing. To get the couple of miles down the road from their house to the approved trails they either needed to trailer, run on private property or chance getting caught on the roads. It just seems unnecessary to stop them in that instance when they doing no harm. I am glad that things are opening up to allow more opportunities to ride.

Thank you for all your help.

2 miles is a big "jump" particular since its route 6. I would not be comfortable doing that. It is going to take some time but they are planning to close some of these gaps.

When I planned routes, I try to limit the jumps as much as possible even if it means riding out of the way.
