Hey guys , Irish3wheeler & I are planning a ride at SSRT on this weekend . We're putting out the word to anyone that would like to join us .
We've never been there before , so if any one can suggest some lodging options , we would greatly appreciate them .
I usually just get a motel room . Preferably the motel has a pool for my little girl , but not neccesary . Also , do we just get our permits at a business near by or preorder ?

Im game count me in. Get off at the snow shoe exit. turn left and the first place on the left is a sandwitch shop, get your sticker there. ($18) I think the wife bought it. MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR INSURANCE WITH YOU THAY WANT TO SEE IT. Dont try to ride without one there was a cop at the trail head lot checking stickers, and one was down at one of the bolsters checking as we went by. I think you can get motel info at the SSRT web site. count me in for saturday.

Man, I've wanted to go to SSRT for s couple years now and it has never worked out...I have family coming into town the following weekend for Memorial Day and have already requested time off for that weekend. If I were alble to,I would definitely be in. Maybe next time.

i have a friend that has a camp there. he's been saying for the last 2 years we would go up there. still haven't, go figure.

I'm going to try and make this trip but I'm already scheduled to work that Saturday. If I can make it I'll be up there Friday afternoon and will leave Sunday morning. I can also see if anyone else wants to go from another site.

I've been there before and have the trails on GPS as well. We've done 40 miles in one afternoon and on a full day have logged over 90 miles.

You can buy your permits at a couple of places but the easiest and most convenient place is the Snow Shoe Sandwich Shop when you get off of the Snow Shoe exit just like Mudduck said. You need your registration and proof of insurance and I think a drivers licsense.

As far as lodging goes, http://www.ssrt.org/lodging.htm the exit before Snow Shoe is Milesburg and there is a Best Way truck stop there and a Quality Inn but it used to be the Ramada inn. http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-milesburg-pennsylvania-PA660 Ramada/Quality Inn does have a pool there. There is also a Mcdonalds, Subway and gas stations. I've stayed at the Ramada Inn and it is nice but a bit pricey. I also stayed at the Cherry Ridge Cabins and their not bad either but about 5 miles from the exit at Milesburg.

Irish, how far of a trip is it for us? I got to work that weekend to have off the following holiday weekend so I doubt I can pull it off, but you never know. It wouldn't be the first time I used the "toothache" excuse. (seems to work better than just being sick)

Rrudzi, I can make it to Snow Shoe in 3 - 3 1/2 hours from the Lansdale exit of the NE TPK if I leave at 9:00 on a Friday morning. I would say 4 hours if your leaving at rush hour from our area.

I'm going to try and make it but no promises yet....keep ya posted!

CAR BOMBS ARE AWESOME. I never saw anyone dislike them. But you have to drink water between them, or the next morning isnt too happy. Its like drinking a lethal Chocolate milk!!! Ive never been there, but Id be leaving at about 3 pm Friday. Pick the kids up from school all loaded up and head out. I figured 3 to 3 and a half hours. From the center of Doylestown. Im usually off half an hour because the kids need to stop more than i do. So 4. Snowdog probably nailed it. Good to see you back Snowdog!!!!

I never saw anyhting against it. I think as long as its registrered and insured your good. I am going to call one of the shops tomorrow to find out about the permits, so Ill ask

I got a question for you SSRT Riders . The owner at Cherry Ridge Cabins said I may not fit through the gate at the trailhead . The Teryx is about 60 inches at it's widest point . What do you guys think ?

Thanks Chris . The guy said they were in a Honda Big Red UTV . I think it's alot wider than a Teryx . But , it still worried me . The gates must be the same width as the State Forests . About 64 in.

Gettin lost is a blast. I used to do it in the car all the time!!! Now though the kids will have to carry my big ole butt out!!!

I have an old Garmin III Plus and a mount for the dash , but it's been so long since I used it , I forgot how to leave the breadcrumb trail Guess I'll bring it AND the manual .

Well I finaly ordered all my parts for the Cat today! 1 axle, 1 knuckle assembly, 1 hub, 1 rotor, 1 extra wheel bearing, and 1 axle nut. So now its looking good for me agian. LOL!! Hopefully all that stuff doesn't get lost in the mail! BAH HA HA HA HA!!

Sounds like fun. Always fun to meet and ride with new people. I was there a few weeks ago and stayed at the kwik fill. Was $43 for a night for two of us.

Hey dad, vie been there a total of 3 times. Probably know just enough to be dangerous and get everyone lost. LOL. If someone else knows the trails I would be happy to follow, if not, I'll do the best I can as I have learned a few of the trails.

Okay between Lipcurl 3 times my 2 times that's 5 so we'll both be able to get us lost by 5 times the power!

Seriously though, one of my other riding friends who is really good at trails and his gps is possibly going as well and staying at the hotel up there. He always insist on riding at the back of the pack because he rides slower and whenever we ride he asks me to lead and I just head out on trails and go wherever I feel like it and he gets us back. I have all his SSRT trails on my gps as well.

We'll be fine either way!

Sounds good guys . My daughter & I should be there sometime Friday . We'll get settled at the cabin and just explore the area around Milesburg if no one else is there yet .

I still dont know if Ill be there by Friday night. If I am its gonna be after 9. If we come Saturday we should be there by 8;3 9 o clock. Depending on where we stop for food on the way. I may just leave at 4 and let the kids sleep the whole way up. Little whiskey in the milk.

I will be traveling sat morning and meet everyone at the trailhead. Just need to set a time to meet there. It's about a 2.5 hr drive for me. I. Assuming everyone is riding all day sat. Curious how long everyone will be riding on Sunday?

I won't know how long sunday until my work schedule comes out on thursday . The latest I'll stay if scheduled monday , is 5 pm on sunday . That will get me home around 9 pm.

Id be about the same. We have a 3.5 to 4 hour ride, and 5 would have to be pull out time for us. Getting up early and driving wouldnt be too bad. Hopefully she can get a Friday off and roll with us. Maybe even if we leave at 8 and get there around midnight, we could sleep in till 8 and that would be a serious treat for us!

i will prob only ride till noonish-1 on sunday. like to get home and relax and spend time with the wife sunday afternoon and evening, that way she lets me go again !!

Here is a nice video on Yahoo of SSRT. At around 4:09 their back on a trail in the pines and these mud holes are tricky and deceiving! The one at 5:07 I got seriously stuck in and had to be towed out as well.

At the beginning of the video there is riding on the public roads and it is legal and accepted. Obviously if your acting like an ARSE and a cop sees you well its your own dam fault!

I am planning on going to rausch creek offroad park that day. or else I would be willing to guide. The king of the hammers qualifier is up there that weekend.

to tell you the truth if you have a good sense of direction then you wont get lost. most of the trails loop back to a familiar trail at some point and time. cell phones work up there as well since most of the trail system is along the I80 corridor. I do know a lil birdie told me to stay off the hill climbs under I80 on both sides of the red mo. supposedly the law has been watching the climbs and citing people.

Although I love Rock Crawling , I stay away from steep hills . Just can't bale out of a UTV like you can on a quad if thing get ugly .

Speaking of which , if any of you know how to run a GO-Pro video camera , I've got one I can bring along . We can get video to let the others see the great ride they missed .... LOL

I would rather do hills in a utv then a atv. lower center of gravity helps alot in them things. seen those utv's climb stuff sport guys would have to be nuts to try.

That's what I've heard , but still too risky for my blood . But , that's also why I'd like to see KOH race out in Johnson Valley . UTVs or Rock buggies , that terain is unbelievable . Closest I have ever come was a BLACK trail I accidentally got on out at Rock Run . An uphill of large rocks . My 5 yr. old shook her finger at me and made me promise I'd NEVER do that again !

Wellll, I haven't earned my SSRT Guide Badge yet. ..but I've been there a few times to know where to go and I have the gps trails from previous trips that I was on that a co-rider sent me. You can blame me when we get lost and when we have a good time getting lost!

No adventure in guiding for me. I like following and seeing how the ride goes. I just unload the Cat from the trailer and load it back on the trailer, everything in between is ALL FUN! LOL!! I'm not sure what I'm doing that weekend yet there's a ride at mines and meadows, a ride at SSRT, a poker run in Nantecoke, and a ride in Treverton all on the 21st. LOL!!

Just got back a while ago from a day trip to ssrt today. My arse is wore out !! Did 99 miles today. Learned a few more trails. Looks like a bunch of rain this week. Should be perfect conditions for next weekend. Can't wait !!!!

Alright guys, here is the Address for the Cabins; 853 Fairview Road Howard,Pa. Can anyone familar with the area please check this out on Google maos and let me know where is the closest place to here to get the permits. Ill do the research on times and how to get to different trailheads, if someone wants to pick one they know to be betterer than another let me know and Ill mao it out. Also please bring your GPS and its dead batteries. That way we can really have some fun!!!! Getting Psyched now , only downer is my Wife cannot make it this time. But we have WS to shoot for in June. Maybe a couple of weekdays for us self employed and shift worker type people?? School will be out, and weekdays are less congested riding. Worth thinking about.

First off, plan on going to the Gillentown Trailhead, much easier for you to get to as well as if your running late for us to come back and meet up with you.

Since your coming up Saturday morning, you'll probably want to go to Hall's True Value in Snow Shoe on 4th Street use 160 S 4TH ST SNOW SHOE, PA to google or bing.com but the Snow Shoe Sandwich Shop doesn't open until around 11:00 or 12:00 if I remember correctly.

So what time we meeting sat morn?

Another good question. I will be able to make it there Friday night so we dont have to wait for me or my group. I will need to get permits though. Any ideas?

Should have everything but the kitchen sink in the trailer.

There is a grocery store right off I80 at snow shoe. halls market. I try to support em every time I stay up there for the weekend.

Bummer i cant make it i have been there prob.40 times in the last three yrs i love it up there. If you want to know anything pm me and ill try to help you out great places to eat up there while riding too. Casanovas great food, coopers in grassflats, jacksons, dairy diner. The ballards i believe are 62" which is gonna be fun since im currently putting long travel on my rzr at 64"

Hey one more thing if you want go to everytrail.com and search for user gump and i have lije 4-5 good gps maps from ssrt your welcome to use them. Great app for smart phones by the way. I use it morw than my garmin nuvi 500 mounted in my rzr.

I'll try to download your trails tonight as well but I'll be loading up tonight so I can leave tomorrow morning. I already have 4 or 5 tracks from previous trips. I just wish I had time to make them all one if that is even possible.

We're 98% loaded . May just head that direction tonight and stop at a microtel or Super 8 to save an early drive . I hate long drives especially when towing .

The Dr. has told me no activities for the girls for 2 days guys. I cannot go, however my Sister and Brother in Law are still going. His name Anthony and her name is Hope, their son/ stepson is Jason. I couldnt even awn the kids off on Mom, because she has the same Flu, and my wife has to work. Anybody have a genie bottle?

i had a great time on saturday. was nice to meet new people and make new friends willing to put up with me and my antics.

nobody got hurt and nothing broke down. actually no one even got stuck. was quite a tame ride (except for irishes sister).

i had 51 miles on the odometer. wish i could have stayed and enjoyed saturday evening aroung the campfire and have riddin today also but this cold is kicking my arss.

already looking forward to the next ride. thanks to everyone

WOW great video chris. I cant get over how still the footage is. your handle bars were going up and down like crazy in some areas. nice job. can the aim the recorder up in the air. that would be cool to see all those puffy white clouds. the sky was awsom that day.

mud duck these GoPro camera's stabilization is FREAKING insane. I thought if I mounted it to the quad it might get bouncy but it doesn't. I like wearing it on my helmet cause if somebody "trys" to yank a wheelie like Lipcurl I can look over there and catch it on the GoPro. I run it on the Cat sometimes, but I really prefer wearing it on my helmet. I wish I would have waited and got the HD GoPro cause the vid quality is alot better. Oh well next time.
