So took my new machine up to M&M to do some break in riding today.

To sum up my impression of the machine in one word..., WOW.

This machine is night and day compared to my 08 brute. The throttle response is instant and smooth through the entire power band and while I had to re-clutch my 08 to pull wheelies, this 12 will do it all day long as is from the factory. There aren't many places that I found to really open her up, but I managed to hit 50 a couple of times before having to back off and she just kept giving and giving.

Then there is the EPS. I was one of those guys that was holding out as long as possible to avoid "just another thing to break," or "I have never seen the need for EPS on a quad," but I have to say, you don't realize you need EPS until you have it. What a difference it makes. Besides making it 100% easier to maneuver tight trails and turns, the elimination of bump steer is worth the price alone. It was so nice not having the handle bars jerked around on me every time I hit a rock or a pot hole. Kawi has a progressive setup where it gives you more assist at low speed and less assist at high speed. I found this to be extremely useful for my kind of riding. I like going fast on woodsy tight trails.

The engine braking on this machine is also very smooth. I remember on my 08 that it would kind of be jerky going down a hill, not so on the 12.

And compared to my 09 Sportsman 850XP, that thing was a tank, fun to ride but big and bulky for my style of riding. The brute is like driving a vette through the woods. Nimble and fast and comfortable all at the same time.

All in all, I love the updates Kawi did to the Brute. Although it might still be behind in power compared to the other big bores, I think it nails my style of riding perfectly and a few missing HP won't make a difference out there in the woods. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and look forward to many years at the helm of this Brute.

Justin

Excellent review of the Brute Justin . thumbs

I got a little saddle time on Irish's up on the mountains at Whiskey Spings trails . There may be bigger CC machines , but as you say , I can't see a reason for more HP . ohno
