We used to ride the coal hills in shamokin and now more recently a few times in treverton. More and more it looks like all the trails I'm seeing listed are all private and need atv registration, insurance, etc. Isn't there any places to ride the trails with our son that does not need memberships, registrations, etc. we only go a few times a year and just for a day for some fun. Just looking for more free trails to ride that won't get us a ticket and does not need yearly memberships.. anyone have any ideas??

it would seem like you just have to Pay to Play anymore. I know, not what you wanted to hear.

Most of the "free" riding areas have been closed off to ATV's

I'd actually go so far as to say ALL riding areas have been closed to ATVs at this point. When I last rode Trevorton in 2011, that was still open to ride, but the writing was on the wall in 2013 that its days were numbered.

Your only option is to look into a private riding area, and these are usually outlaw trails that may very well cost you a fine if caught at some point. Potter County is full of these types of trails. I myself started out riding in White Haven, which offered well over 120 miles of outlaw trails.
