Im from NJ and do all my riding in Pa. Well Im tired of the same places I can ride without registration. SO, after I get insurance and get my Pa registration do I have to pay tax on my atv? I have the titles but never put them in my name as I didnt want to pay the taxes.

This is as far as i know about this------- you have titles--- in anothers name--- you have to get the owner to transfer the ownership to you, along with a price, or gifted? , so you will have to pay tax on the agreed amount.

Where it says you have to prove you paid taxes doesnt that just apply to Pa residents?

It says this right on the application:

Vehicle purchased out of state by a nonresident applicant for use in Pennsylvania (Exemption is not permitted if applicant is a resident or if vehicle was originally purchased in Pennsylvania

What I understand is since I live in NJ and bought it in NY I shouldnt have to pay taxes to get the registration right?

You can NOT get a registration on a vehicle you don't own. If your title does not have your name on it, you legally do not own it. This is pretty much every state. This is how stolen machines get found down the road. And if it did come back as stolen anywhere along its life, YOU will be the one that can be charged criminally. Not knowing is NOT an excuse which is why buying any titled vehicle must be done the right way.
If you are in a state that doesn't use titles, a bill of sale can be used. But NJ and NY are both titling states, I believe. Sorry, but you need to pay the taxes like the rest of us and get the title in your name. It's not worth getting caught on an unregistered vehicle...or a stolen vehicle that YOU bought. Multiple titles? Sounds very fishy to me...

Paying taxes or not paying is besides the point. You legally own neither vehicle and will not get a PA reg. without proof of ownership. Simply possessing titles does NOT grant ownership.

Or you may get a noob that doesn't know any better! J/K

PA DCNR is very strict on these to deter thefts.

Hope this helps.

Ok well it has a legit title from the original owner as I have the receipt from the deal too. Wonder if I can put $1 and say it was a gift. F uncle Sam!

Bottom line is you must get it titled in your name at your address where you live and is on your drivers license. THen you can apply for Pa reg.
