Whiskey Springs is my favorite trail system in this state. It's similar to Bloody Skillet, but has more variety in environment .. there are areas where you ride thru dense pines that makes it seem like its nighttime as dark as it makes it. Another area is all dead pines in a very dense formation, allowing only a very narrow trail thru - you couldn't fit a 54" wide SxS thru there at all. I am very much looking forward to getting back there. I've only ever ridden a sport quad there - definitely want to see how my King Quad 700 does there now.

Yes folks it is all TRUE! Finally!

DCNR Renovo reply:

Hi Mike,

Yes it is true, the Whiskey Springs ATV Trail is opening Friday, May 27th, 2016 - the Friday of the Memorial Day Weekend! We are not opening the camping area though, that will now be a day use/picnic area. For overnight camping, we suggest you contact the Kettle Creek State Park at 570-923-6004.

Is the campground across from the Kettle Creek Inn still there? Might only be seasonal camping though. Anybody Know anything about that place?

Finally, now I might have some motivation to get the cRaZR4 out of the garage this year.

It was proposed but never built. The Kettle Creek inn is still there but they have rooms, not camp sites.

Look up Kettle Creek State Park. There is a site with a phone
number. Supposed to have camping slots and some with electric.
Have no clue where it's at within Sproul, but I would suppose
you could camp, then trailer to the trail head.

I just remember getting a permit and staying a few days at an
upper camp where we would ride right onto the trails. Been a
few years, and way before they started some pipeline work. One
day we we were there and the next, DCNR came in and had us pack
up and vacate.

We were up memorial day weekend. Not as nice as it used to be because they dont have the the camping area anymore and ruined some of the trails getting the machinery thru on the trails but over all still the nicest state trail system.

We are planning a trip to Whiskey Springs over the 4th of July weekend. Has anyone rode the trails since they reopened a few weeks ago? We will be taking a 4 seater RZR and a Polaris Ranger. Will we have any issues getting around? We rode this trail system before the reclamation project, but we were on ATVs. Thanks!

Went there saterday, not a soul around. I was stressing cause of all the trucks with atvs on trailers running thru renovo the following month would be hard for parking. Might have been the heat..

Not a bad trail, they changed alot from 2007. That was a winter ride.

Good over all. dancing

The locals say the elk heard is there or getting there...

Hard to call bs

[url=What is the ATV Connectivity Study? This project is designed to assess the feasibility of a sustainable, designated-use trail connecting the Bloody Skillet ATV Trail in Centre County to the Whiskey Springs ATV Trail System in Clinton County, while also linking to the town of Renovo. What is the focus of the study? The study’s focus is to determine the feasibility of a direct, environmentally sound and sustainable connector trail between the Bloody Skillet and Whiskey Springs ATV Trail systems. The assessment will: • Identify the best available route on the ground through the Sproul State Forest, incorporating the town of Renovo; • Identify and inventory barriers to trail development where they exist; • Identify, and to the extent possible, observe the expectations and concerns of involved local stakeholders; • Acknowledge the constraints which the Bureau of Forestry observes to manage state forests in accordance with the State Forest Resource Management Plan. Why is the study being conducted? This study is part of a planning effort to assess the possibility of closing an identified trail gap as well as to provide connectivity between two ATV trail systems in the north central region of the state. Who is conducting it? Larson Design Group, located in nearby Williamsport, PA, has been retained by DCNR to conduct the feasibility study. How long will it take? DCNR expects to receive a report on the feasibility early in 2018. The findings will be made available to the public around that time. Will there be opportunities for stakeholder and public comment? First, comments will be obtained in a series of four Stakeholder Meetings conducted in February and March 2017. The invited stakeholder groups include representatives from local municipal and county government; local recreation and tourism organizations; local businesses; motorized recreational user groups; non-motorized recreational user groups; and conservation partners with an interest in the region. The Stakeholder Group data will be used to inform the planning and field work in determining preferred and alternative alignments. After alignments are identified, subsequent informational meetings will be held seeking input from both stakeholders and the general public. These meetings are tentatively scheduled for late summer/early fall of 2017.]DCNR connector[/url]

Larson Design group was retained for the study of the Renovo-Whiskey Springs connection. They originally are doing the Bloody Skillet to Renovo part. This will be done this year and construction is estimated to begin March 2018. PaOHV is involved with this as well as several ATV clubs. Originally the Whiskey Springs part was proposed and but aside, all of a sudden DCNR changed course and are now doing the study.
This will be a great connection if it happens.
