It has finally happened. The Rockhouse Trail has been linked to the Buffalo Mountain Trail!! Although the grand opening is not scheduled until Memorial Day, the Devil Anse Trail System opened to the public on Wednesday April 27.

Points of interest along the Devil Anse include the Devil Anse Tunnel, The Devil Anse Cemetery, Ellison Hatfield Cemetery, and an Overlook. The Devil Anse Tunnel is a unique feature of the new trail system is a tunnel that has been incorporated into the trail stating, The system itself has a tunnel underneath the King Coal Highway which is really unusual.

The grand opening for the Devil Anse Trail System has been scheduled for Memorial Day, May 30. But it is open now. They did the final punch through on Wednesday and they opened it instantly. On Memorial Day they are going to have a grand opening and ribbon cutting.

The Devil Anse Trail is the third trail system that has opened in Mingo County. This has been more than ten years in the making. It is complicated. It is a pretty cool thing. Now, Mingo County has three trail systems.

Don't forget that Browning Fork Trailhouse is located in a hotspot! We are the closest lodging to the area where the Rockhouse Trail meets the Devil Anse Trail. Keep us in mind for your lodging!

thats great news now that they lost Ivy branch and little coal river.
Lisa, do you know how long the trail system is from your place to Matewan thru the trail. Looking foward to riding it in October but a ride out to Matewan and back in the same day may not be doable. We may have to make some adjustments to ride the whole trail. Tell Marty we may need someone to take our trailers to Matewan so we can get back.

Fred, if you start from Trail 26 on Rockhouse which is straight up Browning Fork Road, I have heard that it is between 35-40 miles to the Buffalo Mountain Trail. Starting from the trailhouses will make it much easier to ride the connector and some of Buffalo Mountain.
